Sushi wrap met teriyaki tofu

Japanese

Is it a sushi sandwich? A sushi wrap? You choose. Either way, it looks like sushi if you look at the ingredients. A big advantage of this form of sushi is that you don't have to roll it. You fold the sushi sandwich like a package. This way, anyone can make sushi!

You season the tofu slice with our ready-made teriyaki. A winner, because the combination with sushi rice, avocado and carrot provides the perfect flavour balance and bite.

This is how you make it

  1. Cook the sushi rice according to the instructions on the package. When the rice is ready, gently stir in the genmai su and let the rice cool.
  2. Cut the tofu into wafer-thin 5-millimetre slices. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and rub in. Fry the tofu slices in sesame oil until golden brown on both sides.
  3. Turn down the heat and pour the teriyaki over the tofu slices. Turn them over and spread the rest of the teriyaki over the tofu. Fry briefly, until the tofu is browned. Leave to cool.
  4. Peel and thinly slice the carrot with a cheese slicer or peeler. Cut the red cabbage into wafer-thin strips. Slice the avocado.
  5. Place a sheet of nori on a clean, dry surface.
  6. Spread half of the cooled sushi rice evenly on the nori, in the shape of a square (measuring 8-10 cm).
  7. Place the tofu, carrot, red cabbage and avocado slices on the square of rice.
  8. Close with the remaining sushi rice.
  9. Fold the tips of the nori sheet towards the centre, creating a square packet.
  10. Turn the packet over and cut in half.
  11. Serve with tamari soy sauce as a dip.

Tip(s)

  • You can also use teriyaki as a dip, which is a bit sweeter than tamari.
  • Also delicious with wasabi mayonnaise or a dip of mayonnaise with sriracha or miso.
