Gyoza, the popular Japanese dumplings, are a delicious addition to any meal. These vegan gyoza are filled with a flavourful mix of vegetables and tofu, perfect for vegans and lovers of Asian cuisine. Serve them with a homemade dipping sauce for extra flavour. They are ideal as an appetiser, snack or side dish at a dinner with friends or family. In this recipe, you will learn how to make your own gyoza wrappers, but you can also use ready-made wrappers that are slightly thinner. Don't worry if you haven't mastered gyoza-folding techniques; they taste just as good when simply folded.

This is what you need

For the filling:Coconut blossom sugar1 tsp
Fresh ginger1 cm
Tamari2 tbspRoasted sesame oil1 tbspGenmai su1 tsp

Firm tofu150 g
Coconut oil (deodorised)1 tbsp
Pepper and saltto taste

For the gyoza dough
Wheat flour250 g

This is how you make it

  1. Put the flour and salt in a bowl. Add the boiling water and mix. Knead into a ball for 3-4 minutes.
  2. Let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
  3. Crumble the tofu. Grate the carrot, ginger and garlic. Chop the cabbage and spring onions.
  4. Fry the tofu in 1 tbsp coconut oil. Add the vegetables, garlic and ginger and fry until tender. Turn down the heat and add the rest of the ingredients.
  5. Place a spoonful of filling on each gyoza wrapper, moisten the edges with water and fold closed.
  6. Fry the gyoza in oil until golden brown on the underside.
  7. Add a splash of water, cover and steam until the filling is cooked (about 10 minutes).
  8. Mix the ingredients for the dipping sauce and serve.
